Did you know a child (or anyone) can have multiple intelligences?

 

The ‘theory of multiple intelligences’ developed by Howard Gardner, is
an idea that there are several different types of intelligence.

 

And, this makes sense in the case of kids. Gardner, a musician for
instance, was a brilliant composer and instrumentalist being lousy at
mathematics. On the other hand, a mathematician may be wiz with numbers but
terrible at doing arts.

 

He detailed this concept broadly into

7 Multiple Intelligences in his book,

Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences

as follows:

 

 

   Verbal 
Linguistic: Excellence with words
and language

 

 

 

Logical  
Mathematical: Good at logic and numbers

Intelligence, is simply the ability to
acquire and apply knowledge and
skills.

 

 

Albert Einstein once said,

The true sign of intelligence is not
knowledge but 
imagination.

 

The theory of multiple intelligence embarks to challenge the widely
accepted notion, that people have a general level of intelligence that applies,
to all the tasks performed, whether on a physical or mental level, having
significance or not.

 

Standard intelligence tests, such as the
Wechsler and Stanford Binet intelligence tests, 
measure a person’s intelligence quotient (aka IQ).

 

According to a broadly accepted consensus, an individual with a higher
IQ is expected to perform better than average on tasks in general.
By the same criteria, another individual with a lower intelligence
quotient is not expected to perform well in any specific area.

 

The criteria based on the general perception of an individual’s
intelligence falls into two categories, 
either verbal or mathematical.
This simply means that either the person can be
good with words or numbers.

 

A student may be terrible at mathematics and
literature but may have the
potential to be an accomplished artist.

 

Such a student may confronted all his life that they’re a poor
student, based on only the generally accepted mentality to judge an
individual on the basis on only, 
verbal and mathematical
excellency.
They may be subjected to low self-esteem, self-confinement, and feel
worthless.

 

If a teacher recognizes and helps in cultivating
the plant which makes the student achieve their passion regardless what other comment or think, 
it might change the whole scenario for the student themselves, probably leading the student to be confident. 
This is very important to any student.
